Expat Tax Assessment: Know Exactly Where You Stand.

A structured, document-light review of your entire US tax situation abroad — delivered as a written, plain-English report you can act on. Before anyone prepares anything, you deserve the full picture.

Start With an Assessment
Who It’s For

The Right First Step in Four Situations

Just Moved (or About To)

Your first year abroad has the most moving parts — residency dates, state exit, split-year income. Map it before you file.

Not Sure You’re Compliant

You’ve been filing — but nobody ever mentioned FBAR, or 8938, or PFICs. Find out what’s missing, calmly.

Life Just Got Complicated

New job, marriage, property, inheritance, a business — when your situation changes, your filing picture changes with it.

Weighing a Big Decision

Choosing between countries, considering renunciation, or timing retirement withdrawals — get the tax facts first.

What You Get

A Written Report, Not a Sales Pitch

The Assessment produces a personal report of typically 6–10 pages, written in plain English and reviewed with you on a call. It covers every obligation that applies to you, every relief you likely qualify for, and exactly what professional help would cost if you need it — which, sometimes, you don’t.

You don’t need to gather tax documents to start. A structured questionnaire and one conversation give us what we need; we only ask for paperwork if something specific needs verifying.

The report is yours to keep and share with any adviser — whether or not you continue with us.

Inside your assessment
  • Obligations map — which forms apply to you: 1040, 2555, 1116, 8938, FBAR, state returns, and any special forms (5471, 8621, 3520) your situation flags.
  • Strategy comparison — FEIE vs. Foreign Tax Credit modeled for your income and country, including Child Tax Credit and IRA implications.
  • Risk flags — PFIC exposure, missed FBAR years, state residency loose ends, totalization gaps — each with a recommended fix.
  • Catch-up eligibility — if you’re behind, whether the Streamlined Procedures fit and what a submission involves.
  • Personal deadline calendar — every date that applies to you for the year ahead.
  • Cost estimate — a written quote for professional preparation, so the next step has no surprises.
  • Walkthrough call — 30 minutes to go through the report together and answer everything.
The Process

From Booking to Report in About a Week

Step 1

Book & Intake

Schedule online, then complete a structured questionnaire (about 20 minutes) covering residency, income, accounts, and history.

Step 2

Review Call

A short call to clarify details and catch anything the questionnaire can’t — the nuances usually live here.

Step 3

We Prepare

Your report is drafted and checked with input from licensed professionals in our network where specialist points arise.

Step 4

Walkthrough

You receive the report, then we walk through it together. You decide what happens next — with zero obligation.

Pricing

One Flat Fee. Credited If You Continue.

Fixed fee, quoted upfront

The Assessment is a flat fee agreed in writing before we begin — no hourly meters. If you proceed to professional preparation through our matching service, the assessment fee is credited toward that work. If your Tax Check shows you don’t need a full assessment, we’ll tell you that too — for free.

Common Questions

Before You Book

Do I need to send tax documents or returns?
No — the Assessment is deliberately document-light. The questionnaire and call give us what we need; if a specific point requires verification, we’ll ask for just that item through a secure channel.
Is this tax advice?
It’s a structured information product: it maps your obligations and options in general terms and is prepared with input from licensed professionals. Formal advice, preparation, and filing come from the licensed professional you engage — whom we can match you with as the next step.
What if my situation turns out to be really complex?
Then the Assessment is worth even more — it scopes the complexity honestly (foreign companies, trusts, PFICs) so the professional quote you receive matches reality instead of ballooning mid-engagement.
How fast can I get it?
Typically within five business days of your intake call. If you’re against a deadline, tell us — expedited turnaround is usually possible.
